Like a pair of carbon-fiber dance shoes, the new 2024 Ford Mustang is a knockout. The company revealed today that when the Dark Horse performance variant goes on sale later this year, Ford will offer carbon wheels as a customization option.
Ford claims that each wheel weighs just 20.1, making them 37% less than the comparable Dark Horse aluminum wheels. They were designed in tandem with Carbon Revolution and are a continuation of Ford’s carbon-fiber wheel offerings for the GT supercar and the Mustang Shelby GT350R.
New Technology For Mustang Dark Horse
Utilizing technology inspired by aerospace engineering, Carbon Revolution sprayed a plasma arc through the front wheels to protect them from the high temperatures generated by braking. The front wheels have 305/30R-19 Trofeo RS performance tires, while the rear wheels get 315/30R-19 rubber. Blue Ember is a special exterior paint color for the Mustang Dark Horse that is believed to change hues in different lighting conditions.
In addition to the unique wheels and paint, Ford provided us with our first look at the Dark Horse’s customized inside detailing. The somber cabin features a combination of black and blue colors. On the steering wheel, the door panels, the shift boot, and the Recaro performance seats are bright Indigo Blue stitching. Dark Horse Appearance Kit adds a Deep Indigo Blue color to the seat bolsters and seatbelts to complement the interior motif.
The seatbacks are covered in black Dinamica suede, while the bezels and vents on the dashboard are coated in a dark metallic sheen that replaces the silver hues found on lesser Mustang trim levels. The instrument and door panels, as well as the three-spoke steering wheel, are trimmed with carbon fiber upfront.
Customers who choose the six-speed manual transmission will use a special anodized blue titanium manual shift knob for rowing through the gears. According to Ford, the hollow shift knob helps keep it cool in hotter weather. Those who opt for the 10-speed automatic transmission receive anodized silver paddle shifters as a consolation reward.
As a finishing touch, each Mustang Dark Horse boasts a badge on the instrument panel that displays the vehicle’s chassis number.
